LOCATION OF THE VINEYARD: VISTALBA, Luján de Cuyo. AGE OF THE VINEYARD: planted in 1908. GRAPES: 100% Malbec.
HARVEST: 2nd week of April to the end of April.
YIELD: 5000 kg/ha. The defoliation and green harvesting takes place in January. The harvest is done manually in small 20 kg trays so as not to damage the grapes. Before vinification, a meticulous double selection is carried out manually to select the best grapes.
BLEEDING: 15%.
FERMENTATION: In small concrete tanks Controlled temperature of 28°C. Four skewers a day and a long maceration of 30 days.
AGEING: 100% of the wine aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, final clarification with fresh egg whites.
TASTING NOTES: This Malbec has a very intense and beautiful bouquet, with an abundance of wild black fruits, liquor and spices. In the mouth, the wine shows a remarkable balance with very elegant, delicate and silky tannins.
República del Malbec is a wine in which we want to express all the potential of a unique terroir such as Las Compuertas, in Luján de Cuyo, from vineyards planted in 1927 on free standing in the highest area of traditional Mendoza, at 1,100 meters above sea level. .
We call it “Vino de Finca”, made with grapes from a single vineyard. We are alone are of alluvial origin, with 1 meter of sandy and clay-clay texture, supported by a subsoil of gravel and boulders that we sometimes see on the surface, and where we still maintain furrow irrigation.
The pieces are unmoulded, burning naturally by gravity in small bucket containers, where they ferment with native yeasts at temperatures between 26º and 28ºC. For several weeks we do a very delicate job with our hands to go deeper or leaf through and get a slow extraction. Continuous aging in French oak barrels for different uses and oak foudres for 16 months.
